Some winemakers get blinded by the glitz and
glam of elite Napa Valley wineries...allocation only, waiting lists, and top-end prices.
There are a few that are keeping it real, offering a wine that rocks at an
affordable price. Isn't that what we are all looking for these days? Our
find...the 2007 Emerson Brown is a highlight in the world of amazing wines at unbelievable bargains. If you
love Cabernet from Bordeaux or California it is a truly spectacular buy,
because it stands on its own and pairs wonderfully with food.
The 2007 vintage is EXCEPTIONAL. Keith
Emerson (Vineyard 29, Robert Craig) and Brian Brown (Round Pond) pushed the
envelope by not just capturing this impressive year, but also by bringing the terrior
to the forefront. Last Friday, I sat down with Keith and Brian. What did they have to say....easy vintage, in terms
of bringing out the expression of the vineyard, still retains character,
finesse, and concentration without being over-ripe and dense, solid foundation,
well-integrated, seamless with a lot more expression than 06.
There is a serious following for this wine, because
people who latch onto it
have respect for what Keith and Brian are accomplishing. Check out the buzz that
has already started on the Mark Squires' Bulletin Board: http://dat.erobertparker.com/bboard/showthread.php?t=210066.

The Winemakers:
"Intense color with violet and blue hues suggesting freshness and verve.
Explosive aromas of deep black cassis, currant, perfume and dark cocoa. Enters
the palate full with an intriguing mineral component and remains round and
velvety with structured tannin and acid in harmony with a judicial use of
attractive French oak. Persistent black fruit and dark cocoa flavors linger on
the palate creating a drawn out, mouth-watering finish. Drink upon release or
cellar for up to 15 years."
The 2007 Vintage: "This has turned out to be
the greatest vintage since 2001 or 2002 for the Bordeaux varietals in Napa,
although 2005 is very close in quality, if very different in style. The wines
display extraordinary fragrance and gorgeously seamless personalities, with
sweet noble tannins as well as terrific concentration and length. It is a very
exciting vintage." Robert Parker, The Best of Northern California
I saw this pitch once....I will not only
take the wine back if you don't like it, I will also come
to your house and wash your car. It
made me laugh when I read it, but I also thought what do I have to lose. For me,
this wine is THAT GOOD....
