8 Tips to Growing Your Email List

Why should you send an email campaign? Why not!

Unlike the time and expense of print, email is a quick, easy, and effective way to share information with customers.

You shouldn't wait until you have lots of news. The best emails are short, punchy, and have a clear call to action with a link to more information on the company website.

Of course, you need to make sure you have collected customer email addresses so you can share your news. Here are some tips to accelerate your list building efforts:

Build a List Online

1. Allow signups on company website
The best place to collect email addresses and permission is on the company website! People on the site are predisposed to receive information electronically, so email is the perfect mechanism for them. To increase email address sign-ups businesses must include a signup box on the home page. A link to sign up or a signup box on another page will not work. MailMentum makes it easy!

2. Add "join our mailing list" link to all emails
Add a "join our mailing list" link in the signature of every email sent to clients, business associates, friends, and family. The link should go on the home page, where the signup box is prominently displayed (as outlined in step 1).

3. Create a "forward to a friend" link
When sending a campaign using MailMentum, a "forward to a friend" link appears at the bottom of the email. Draw extra attention to this link by pointing it out in the text of the email. As the email gets passed along, they can join the list. What an easy way to grow email marketing efforts!

Don't Forget about Offline Efforts

Businesses must make sure company employees thinks of gathering email addresses at every opportunity.

4. Have a guest book in your office or store
Include an enticing offer, like email-only sales promos or a drawing, to increase signups.

5. Offer a sign up at tradeshows or other events

6. Make sure your web address and invitation to join your list is on all printed materials, including invoices, statements, brochures, coupons, etc.

7. Add it to other marketing efforts like advertisements

8. Ask on customer service, sales, and technical support calls

If you use these tips, we think you’ll be so surprised at how fast your email list grows!
